For the last couple of years we have been supporting MarketPlace of Ideas for Kids, a North Dakota foundation which presents 12 Technology skill days each year to 3-8th graders throughout the area.
The focus is 21st Century skills of collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. Reaching over 6000 students annually, MPK's goal is to expose preteens to money management, STEAM based and safety careers by getting theirs hands into the real job guilded by those already working in the field. Students may also pitch a new business idea or invent/engineer new products to compete in the "Hall of Great Ideas".
Barriers plague everyone, but few are as great as for those reintering society from incarceration. Breaking Barriers-Utah changes futures by getting and keeping individuals in the local community college. It's not as easy as it sounds. It takes housing, jobs, counseling, tutoring, support groups, food, daycare and host of community services to stay in class, but the results speak for themselves: proud, self-suficient individuals and families who see life
from a sustainably different perspective.
Founded by an amazing woman, Breaking Barriers has demonstrated and proven a formula that can be applied in any community to change futures.
US Citizenship and English as a Second Language
America is open to everyone. It's our responsibility to teach those immigrating from other countries how to communicate effectively for employment, family and community. Many have paid grately to come here but they need our help to realize the
dream America offers.
We also need to help them understand American history and culture. For instance, the price that has been paid for freedom and what our constitution, laws, and authorities were designed to provide for America's complex society.
ELL has reach over 7000 with their free online classes using trained teachers and proven materials.
Colorado Learning Connections.
We are a family foundation. We've started by honoring our roots. My father was born and raised in Leadville, Colorado, a beautiful place with a boom and bust mining history. Unfortunately, their schools were suffering from very poor graduation rates and very high grade retention rates (repeating a grade level). CLC has made a difference.
The tutors from CLC came into the schools every Friday with free tutoring in writing, math, history, etc. One on one, they coached and encourage each student. Tutoting continues and the effort is more self-sustaining after 2 years. Students are staying in school, at grade level, and excelling toward graduation. Well done!
